Introduction to Implant Surgery and Restoration (301)
The Midwest Implant Institute offers the Introduction to Implant Surgery and Restoration (301) in biannual sessions for the year 2010.
Within the Introduction to Implant Surgery and Restoration (301), the participant will review multiple facets of implant dentistry. The instructional and hands-on foundation includes the basic anatomy and tissue management for simple implant placement. Diagnosis and treatment planning give the doctor knowledge in planning for implant treatment. Reasons for implant thread design and internal prosthetic components of different systems are discussed. Bone spreading and rotary instrumentation is demonstrated in maxillary and mandibular bone as well as discussion of bone grafting techniques. Hands-on placement of implants in technique models allows the participant to get a tactile feel for the ease of placing implants. Assistants role in serving the doctor during surgery as well as post-operatively with the patient are discussed. Future of dentistry and demographics show that implant treatment is the fastest growing segment of a dental practice. Participants will learn the Midwest Implant Institute Externship Program Requirements.
The Midwest Implant Institute offers the Implant Team Training for Doctor and Staff (302) in biannual sessions for the year 2010.
Sterile technique for implantology: protocol and documentation for treatment planning and proper patient onsent, surgical template construction. 302 will allow time to do proper Diagnosis and Treatment Planning with dental mplants, construction of proper useful surgical stents by Doctor/staff, Doctor/staff use of sterile technique to get predictable results, Hands-on implant placement in artificial mandibles utilizing staff to help the doctor place the implants correctly, Incorporating proper suturing techniques for better tissue closure, How to talk to patients about the benefits of dental implants, Oral hygiene responsibility of patient and staff members, MII Protocol of preparing Doctor/staff/ their patient with dental implant treatment at MII facility
The Midwest Implant Institute offers the Introduction to Implant Prosthetics (305) in biannual sessions for the year 2010.
Even if you don't do surgery, learn how to restore so you keep your patient in your practice. Teaches the different basic concepts and the types of prosthetics components from different implant systems.
This is a hands-on prosthetic course allowing the participants to handle several different implant prosthetic
components. Live patients will be observed using different implant prosthetic modalities.
Course designed to learn the simple prosthetic procedures of several systems, which
will allow participating dentist to treat patients that come to their office with broken
prosthetic components that need emergency treatment. Keep implant prosthetic problems in your own office. Become proficient with improving implant esthetics
This course covers the prosthetic protocols for most of the main implant systems, and the
generic protocols to allow you to:
Confidently restore implants you have placed
Serve prosthetic needs of new patients who already have dental implants
Confidently learn treatment planning with prosthetics as starting point
Includes Live Patient Demonstration of Mandibular Overdenture Construction
A comprehensive hands-on implant surgery course on your patients. One of the best courses available for the general dentists to acquire the knowledge and expertise to confidently place dental implants in their own offices.
Topics included for Doctor (551):
Tissue management
Use of Surgical Template on their patients
Treatment planning of their patients
Bone grafting before, during, and after implant placement
Selection of implant width, length and type in different bone density

Requirements:
1. ASSIST WITH AT LEAST ONE MAXILLARY ANTERIOR AND
ONE POSTERIOR BONE SPREADING TECHNIQUE PATIENT.
2. ASSIST WITH AT LEAST ONE MANDIBULAR SINGLE IMPLANT.
3. ASSIST WITH ONE FULLY EDENTULOUS MANDIBULAR UTILIZING FOUR SYMPHYSIS
IMPLANTS WITH A BAR OVER-DENTURE PATIENT
(Two implants can be placed if patient prefers because of expense)
LIVE SURGERIES PERFORMED BY PARTICIPATING DOCTOR WITH HIS/HER STAFF ASSISTING THE
PROCEDURE WITH ONE ON ONE SUPERVISION BY MII FACULTY/STAFF
Topics included for Doctor/Staff (552):
All of the same items included in course 551, except the Extern will place the endosseous implants and
perform bone grafting with his/her own staff assistants under close supervision.
Externs and staff will be graded during these implant placement and bone grafting procedures.
Requirements:
1. SURGICALLY PLACE AT LEAST ONE MAXILLARY ANTERIOR AND ONE
POSTERIOR IMPLANT USING THE BONE SPREADING TECHNIQUE.
2. SURGICALLY PLACE AT LEAST ONE MANDIBULAR SINGLE IMPLANT.
3. SURGICALLY PLACE FOUR IMPLANTS IN SYMPHYSIS FOR BAR OVER-DENTURE PATIENT (Two implants can
be placed if patient prefers because of expense)
How and when to graft (and when not to). Which bone grafting material to use when one thread or 3 threads are showing at implant placement. Does non-resorbable or resorbable tissue barrier get the best results? Types of graft materials, use of PRP and other adjuncts. Bring your own patients for hands on surgery.
Lecture Topics:
Bone grafting materials – What to use and when to use them
Reasoning behind bone grafting
Step by Step of different bone grafting procedures
Simple bone grafting with no threads showing on placed implant
Bone grafting materials with 1-3 threads showing on placed implant
Sinus elevation – rotary as well as piezosurgery – LIVE SURGERY
Securing block bone grafts – LIVE SURGERY
Tunnel grafting – LIVE SURGERY
Socket preservation – LIVE SURGERY
Lateral Nerve Repositioning and immediate implant placement – LIVE SURGERY
Tissue management to ensure bone maturity after grafting
Platelet Rich Plasma and uses in bone grafting procedures
“Hands-On” by participants:
PRP – Draw blood and spin down to get PRP concentration
Piezosurgery technology on dried specimens and eggs
No other Bone Grafting Course in America allows you to observe live surgery for:
Sinus Elevation with rotary round bur and piezosurgery technology
Socket preservation using PRP with bone grafting material
Block bone graft from chin or lateral ramus or cadaver bone bank
Mandibular “tunnel technique” to acquire mandibular bone width
No matter what your level of competence in implant dentistry,
you will face challenges
Areas of discussion:
• Handing loose screws
• Handling broken screws
• When to repair an implant that has lost bone support
• When to remove an implant that has lost bone support
• Identifying failed implants that can not be repaired
• Removing an implant with minimal bone loss
• Which bone grafting materials to use in implant repair
• Which tissue barriers to use in implant repair
• When to remove a compromised tooth and replace with an implant
• When to do socket preservation without immediate implant placement
• When to do extraction of compromised tooth with immediate implant placement and temporization of lost tooth area
• Challenging discussion strategies: Informing your patient that he/she is going to lose an implant
• When and how to charge for implant failure
• Where to go to ask questions about a problem or challenge
Why this Digging Out of Problems Course is needed:
• We all have patients that seem to have more problems than other patients
• We all need a source to ask questions about implant fixture failure as well as implant prosthetic problems
• There is comfort in knowing that others have implant failures
• We can always learn from other’s problems…..if they will share with us
